2010
Tree Dressing, Sky Gazing
and Wild Walk, Lakeside Arts Centre, Nottingham.
A series of activities for young ones and their families using the wonderful
University Park setting. Participants tried tree dressing, made sun prints and
screen printed t-shirts, they made drawings and cloud shadow silhouettes. During our
Wild Walks we created and placed interventions in the landscape for others to
enjoy.
Pastures Way Nursery, Creative Partnerships,
Luton, My aim was to inspire staff to use contemporary art in the nursery.
Worked with toddlers and 3-5 year olds making 2D/3D work exploring materials and
nature: from bug hotels and garden sculpture to decorating fabric for reading room
cushions. During the project I compiled a library of resources for staff, led two
INSET’s, started a parents sewing group, led a trip to a sensory garden and ran a
saturday workshop for families.
Collage Houses, Brent
Museum, London. Drop in workshop for families inspired by the architecture of
local man Ernest Trobridge who’s buildings included features inspired by castles.
Drawing By Design, Building Exploratory, London.
The Attlee Youth & Community Centre in E1 was the location for experimental
drawings focusing on the built environment. Using a variety of surfaces and
materials we created expressive responses to the locality.
Coppermill School, A New Direction, London. Every class at
Coppermill made a stop frame animation film, I assisted them all in making their
plastasine characters, sets and props - a real challenge!
Reverse Graffiti, Building Exploratory at the Geffery Museum,
London. Reverse graffiti is fascinating: cleaning away the grime from city
walls to leave an image. Families explored this idea using materials that can be
rubbed or scraped away.
2009
Portfolio Advice Day, Tate Britain, London. Annual event for
art students who are the first generation in their families to go to university. I
led tours focusing on Roger Hions work in the Turner Prize.
Spooky Tate, Tate Britain, London. Playing with silhouettes
and shadows for halloween, part of a day-long family event.
Signs, Symbols, Spaces and
Homemade Mapping, The Building Exploratory, in partnership with Hackney Museum, London. Workshops for children inspired by
the museums exhibits, exploring visual communication, drawing and model making.
Habitat Tales and Rocks and
Soils, A New Direction, London. In partnership with Larmenier and Sacred
Heart Catholic School we explored the curriculum topic of Habitats, motivating and
engaging a class of Year 4 pupils in science using creative approaches. In
partnership with Sheringham Junior School we delivered the curriculum topic of Rocks
and Soils to three Year 3 classes using the same methodology.
Experimental Drawing, Foundling Museum, London. A day of
ideas and creative challenges for A Level students exploring unfamiliar ways of
drawing and mark making rooted in music and movement.
Muddy Huts and Mad Tales, The Building Exploratory in
partnership with [SPACE]. Children aged 5+ explored
Godfried Donkor’s exhibition ‘Story Of A London Township’ and built their own huts
in response. Illuminating our huts with glow sticks we dimmed the lights in the
gallery and read Ghanaian stories, imagining the characters inhabiting our
township.
Celebrating Me, Apples & Snakes/A New
Direction. Celebrating Me in Brookfield House School encouraged children to
think about and share their perceptions of themselves and their role in different
groups within school and society. The two groups worked with a performance poet and
explored visual art in 3D.

Exploratory, London. Summer workshops exploring water, encouraging awareness
of how we use this precious resource.
Tiny Tate, Tate
Britain. Collage activity for under 5’s inspired by Victor Passmore, part of
a day-long family festival.
Ebbsfleet Landmark Link
Project, Kent. One of 5 creative practitioners working in 5 secondary schools
on this community engagement programme for ELP. Encouraging an appreciation and
understanding of site-specific artwork in relation to internationally known artists
proposals for a 50m high sculpture in the Ebbsfleet Valley.
Fellowship Art Challenge Exhibition & Fellowship Symphony,
Waltham Forests Arts & Events Team. Worked with 9 local schools and
Leyton Orient FC to create visual artwork for Fellowship.
Creative Partnerships, London North. Varied projects with
teachers and primary school pupils exploring creative learning, speaking, listening
and self-expression.
Foundling Museum, London.
Workshop on image and identity with A level students exploring shadow and
silhouette.
VerbalEyes: finding a voice through art,
Tate Britain, London. Project concerned with literacy in its broadest
context. Worked with two Year 3 classes in a Newham primary school and led Insets
for teachers and school visits in the gallery. Outcomes from VerbalEyes were
exhibited and performed in Tate.
2007
Making Waves, Creative Partnerships London North. A project involving 20
schools and artists creating a climate in which sustainable and creative change can
happen. From September 07 to March 08 I will be working with St Michael's School in
Wood Green.
Shaping Places, Ocean New Deal, The Building
Exploratory, The Big Draw, London. Regeneration in the Ocean Estate, Stepney
provided the starting point for this youth and community project. Culminated in a
community day for the Big Draw launch on 30th September.
Spider Weaver, The Building Exploratory. This Ghanaian legend
about the origin of Kente cloth inspired us to explore patterns in spider's webs.
Fellowship 2012 Art Exhibition for Young People, Waltham Forests Arts and Events
Team. Developed ideas with four local schools and delivered a variety of projects
for summer exhibition.
Sell Yourself! PEER in
partnership with The Building Exploratory, London.
Developed and ran workshops for local schools and community groups, inspired by the
SHOP LOCAL project by Bob & Roberta Smith located in various sites around
Shoreditch.
VerbalEyes: finding a voice through art,
Tate Britain, London. This fantastic project focused on literacy in its
broadest context. Working in Newham primary schools I led whole day INSETS and
school visits in Tate Britain. In collaboration with teachers and Tate I devised,
planned and delivered a two-week tailor made art project in school. Outcomes from
VerbalEyes were exhibited and performed in Tate Britain.
2006
Victorians and Our Stories: Sutton House, London.
After school clubs exploring Victorian childhood and Punch & Judy puppets and
history, family heritage and identity in this National Trust property.
Outside In! Summer workshops at The
Building Exploratory. Groups of children built a giant tent inside the
exploratory. Inspired by tipis, yurts and summer in the city we used withy
sculpture, screen-printed cloth, weaving and clay work to make our tent. The huge
grins on every child's face as they crawled inside the tent reflected the success of
this project.
Deptford Stories: Memory Maps.
Primary school pupils used memories and stories gathered during oral history
interviews to inspire their maps to celebrate the history of the Albany Community
Centre and Theatre.
Tallest Totem Pole (for young
people) and Zig Zag Zoom inspired by William Turnbull's
sculpture and Clay Poke inspired by Rebecca Warren's
sculpture (Under 5's) Tate Britain.
Space House, The Building Exploratory. A place to live far
from Earth.
Deep Time in Lyme; Lyme Regis Fossil
Festival 2006. The Jurassic Coast in Dorset has inspired a huge education
event for the 2006 Fossil Festival. Schools are linked on an urban/rural basis and I
worked with Southwell Primary in Ealing. Portland stone provided our link to Dorset;
used to dramatic effect in St Paul's. The children photographed the Cathedral, a
selection of these photographs were exhibited at the festival.
Memory and Landscape, October Gallery, London. With
mainstream and special needs pupils we explored the themes and techniques used by
Aboriginal artists to create large dot filled canvases.

Stripe Delight, Tate Britain. Workshops for
children inspired by Jim Lambie's taped floor in the Turner Prize exhibition.
A-Z of Drawing (for the Big Draw), Twenty-Four Hours in Ridley
Road, and A Block of Summer, family workshops at
The Building Exploratory.
Living City, The Building
Exploratory in partnership with The Science
Museum. Devised and ran a series of workshops looking at issues of recycling,
sustainable buildings and community. A visit to The Hackney Empire provided our
initial inspiration. Children at Berger School in Hackney then made a large
cardboard model, which was displayed at the Science Museum during the summer.
2004
Paper Cut, Drawing Room/SPACE,
London. Devised and ran a series of workshops using the Hew Locke/Diana
Cooper show at the Drawing Room. Children from London Fields Primary built a large
cardboard installation complete with tunnels and 'room' like structures.
October Gallery. Devised and led a series of workshops for
mainstream and special needs groups of children. We studied the painting techniques
of Aboriginal artists.
Tate Britain. Worked on
the family day event on an activity inspired by Michael Landy's Semi-detached, also
ran workshops for children alongside the Art in the
Garden exhibition.
